Why We Stopped The Cleanse... And Why I Am Starting Over

So we didn't make it very far before we got tempted and had some sugar and dairy. (Who can resist Cold Stone? Especially when you have to be there for 2 hours.) As a result of this we decided to stop the cleanse and just eat healthier. We decided that instead of doing this cleanse for six weeks, we would just stick to the basic diet and eat healthier always! (We were going to try to do this after anyways.) So here we are trying to eat healthier. So we eat mostly vegetables, but we added back in fruit, dairy and bread. And occasionally we eat some sugar.

I do feel somewhat bad about having stopped so soon. I really don't want to rely on taking a pill everyday for the rest of my life to manage my insulin resistance. So I might do the cleanse (and complete it) sometime in the future if eating healthy doesn't help take it away completely anyways. I'll need more help and motivation this next time around. And probably not hang out in Cold Stone or places that are a temptation. ESPECIALLY when give you samples. Never a good idea when trying to do a diet/cleanse.

Okay, so I basically decided while writing this that I am going to just start over and do the cleanse again now. Yes, its hard. Yes, my husband probably wont join me, making it harder. But I am going to complete it and hopefully stop having to take my insulin resistance pills and be healthy and not at risk for diabetes. I want to be healthy! It has always been a goal of mine to stay healthy but now that I know I am at risk for getting diabetes and now that I have a son, I want to get healthy even more.

We also decided not to eat meat everyday. Meat is expensive! And having too much isn't as good for us as we think. And here's the thing, America has made it so meat has to be in every meal and it has to be a HUGE portion or its not a meal. Well, it is a meal without meat and when we eat meat it should be very little portions with a bunch of veggies and fruit and other foods.

So there you have it. I am back on the cleanse starting today! Stay strong me, I know I can do it! :)

Reasons Behind the Cleanse

So others (and myself) have been wondering why I am even doing this cleanse. Well... "because" is a popular answer. But I am really doing it for health reasons. Let me first tell you my health problems. If I was always feeling fine and never had problems I wouldn't even think about changing my diet! It wouldn't have mattered much to me if I was sick or unhealthy in some way if I didn't feel it. I think most people think that way, "I feel fine, why should I change?"
Well the thing is, some people are sick or have problems and think that they really do feel fine. And honestly most days I feel "fine", but I have reasons to believe that I actually feel like crap and could feel way better than I do, just to get to "fine".
So here is what I feel on a regular basis (like almost everyday):

  • Headaches
  • Stomach aches
  • Fatigue
  • Constipation (I know its gross but hey, it happens to everyone)
  • Gas
  • Sickness (I get sick a ton! I don't have a great immune system, which is part of the problem.)
  • Allergies
  • Dizzyness
  • Nausea 
And I know there is more I can't think of right now. The reason I have these problems is I have GERD and Mild Insulin Resistance. So GERD stands for Gastroesophageal reflux disease. Basically I have reflux problems. Find out more about it here.

And Mild Insulin Resistance means that I can't process sugars the same as everyone else and means I am on the path to diabetes. I do not wish to be on this path anymore. Diabetes is a scary thing to me. I don't like needles or blood and I don't like the thought of having to maintain my blood sugar levels even more so than I do now.

Okay so my friend told me about this diet/cleanse thing and said her husband did it and felt so much better after! He lost weight, lost his arthritis and went from being even closer to diabetes than I am to being text book perfect. WOW! Now THAT'S results! I would love to not have to take a pill everyday to maintain how my body processes sugars. When I heard her talking about this to someone else I instantly thought that I need to do that! So now I am!

What he did was cut out all sugars (including anything that turns into sugars, like fruits and some veggies), gluten, dairy, and yeast. He also took pills to kill the yeast in his body. Starve it and kill it. That is how you do it. So, basically, he ate quinoa, dark leafy greens and lean meats for six weeks.

After doing this diet for 2 days, I think that that might be a bit hard for us. So we are going to cut out those same things, but not exactly. We are going to not eat refined or processed sugars, but still eat fruits and veggies low on the glycemic index. We also will occasionally have honey or agave nectar as substitutes. We plan on sticking to mostly the same diet except for with the sugars. That and I really don't think I can last a whole six weeks without even a HINT of something sweet.

Well there you have it. The reasons and the plans. To be healthier and get rid of my Insulin Resistance and to diminish the symptoms I feel too often. I want to feel great! I want to know what great feels like! So join us on this journey and let us know how it goes for you!

6 Week Cleanse

So starting today, David and I are starting a 6 week cleanse to get healthier. We are cutting out yeast, gluten, sugar and dairy. It is going to be hard, and will suck for a while because are body is detoxifying, but it will be worth it. It's going to help us to detoxify and hopefully help me with my insulin resistance and help David remain healthy so as to not have heart problems.
